A Cabal Of Dwarvish Rogues 1.1
This is Chapter 4 in the series entitled "TheLife And Times Of Seth Serrenson". Chapters 1-3 are asfollows:1. Halls Of The Goblin Lords2. The Terror Of The Troll Witch3. "If I Whet My Glittering Sword"All 3 of the previous chapters are available on Google Play andare free. This chapter can be played as a stand-alone game, orenjoyed as part of the larger role-playing experience.BACK STORY[Warning: Spoilers are below for people who have not played thefirst 3 chapters!]An innocent man. You just killed an innocent man.His name was Barnen. The mayor of Westmoreland, who happens tobe Barnen's uncle, sent you to him as a diversion. The mayor, KjenJaren, was actually the culprit behind the poisoning of the well atWestmoreland, but he led you to believe it was Barnen. When you confronted Barnen, he challenged you to a duel in aneffort to defend his honor. He lost the fight but kept his honor. You now know that he was innocent. At the end of the duel, your old friend Kaysa the druid showedup and gave you nothing but bad news: Pretty much everyone in therealm wants to kill you. Also: the well at Westmoreland wassuccessfully poisoned, and Kjen framed you for the foul deed. The only lead you now have is the one given to you by Barnenbefore you killed him. He said that he was searching for the DwarfSupremacists in the ruins of Kirt because two of their members hadtried (unsuccessfully) to kill Kjen a couple of weeks earlier.Barnen wanted to find out why.Now you get to find out why. Our story picks up with youentering the ruins of Kirt in search of the Dwarf Supremacists -who happen to not only be rogues but racist rogues. They believethat dwarves are the supreme race, and have been known to killpeople for committing the "crime" of not being dwarves. But will the cabal of rogues give you the answers that you need,or will they kill you on the spot...?GAME PLAYThings get more interesting here. In this game, you learn somerogue-like skills. You will learn sneak, ventriloquism, andbackstab-like maneuver which I refer to as "the gut". You'll alsoget a chance to practice your new skills.Other than that, combat is the same as in previous games. Theaxe icon is what you use to strike. Just make sure that you arefacing your enemy and close enough to hit. The foot icon is forjumping. Movement is controlled by the transparent joystick on thelower, left-hand side.DEVELOPER NOTESOnce again, I struggled to keep it under 50Mb. And, once again, even with the struggle I made it happen. I had some problems withgrass textures on the opening scene, which is why you don't see awhole lot of that. But hey, it's a desert environment so a wholelot of grass would be out place, wouldn't it?There are still a few tweaks that I would like to make for thenext release. There are some combat issues that I would like to getcleaned up, and sometimes drinking a healing potion in the middleof combat can cause the animation to go haywire. Those are tough toreproduce, but I'll look at them.
If I Whet My Glittering Sword 1.1
HOT TIP: IF YOU HOLD THE JUMP BUTTON DOWN, YOUJUMP HIGHER! THIS MIGHT HELP IN THE LAKE MUGAVE LEVEL.This is Chapter 3 in the ongoing series entitled: The Life AndTimes Of Seth Serrenson. The first two chapters are available onGoogle Play and are also free:Chapter 1: Halls Of The Goblin LordsChapter 2: Terror Of The Troll WitchThis game can be enjoyed standalone or played as part of thelarger, role playing experience.BACK STORY[Be advised that the back story below contains spoilers for peoplewho have not played the first two chapters. If you wish to enjoythe full role playing experience, please download and play Halls OfThe Goblin Lords and work forward from there.]You are Seth Serrenson, an ax-wielding ex-mercenary formerlyemployed by the Viscountess Bayette D'Lasio. She assigned you aquest of locating the mysterious (and underground) goblin halls anddestroying the goblin shaman. You did both, but found clues that arecent increase in goblin raids is part of some larger, moresinister plot. One clue you found was a map to Westmoreland. Another clue was amysterious potion. Subsequent events indicated that the two clueswere related. A weird potion master named Oswego, whom youencountered on the way to Westmoreland, told you that the potionwas in fact a poison, and that the map pointed to the well inWestmoreland. Conclusion: Someone wants to poison the well atWestmoreland.Oswego also told you that the only one who would make such apotion is the dreaded troll witch, who inhabits the caverns ofAgolmar. You made your way to those caverns, confronted the trollwitch, and cleverly killed him. Before he died, though, he told youthat he was contracted to make the potion by someone who bore thecrest of House Jaren. You determine that you still must make your way to Westmoreland, thinking that the answers are there. That is where our storybegins...GAME PLAYCombat, combat, and more combat. I have enhanced the combat enginequite a bit. Your opponents can now block, parry, and dodge. Youmay have noticed some of that from the promo video.Controls are still intuitive: The joystick is on the lower left. The axe button is your attack button. The foot button is a jumpbutton.I usually try to make these games easy for casual gamers, butprovide a time-based scoring system so hardcore gamers can competefor a high score. The time-based scoring system is still in thisgame (every level is timed, except for cut scenes), but there aresome elements that are a little more challenging in this game.Let's face it: Troll Witch was too easy. I think even the mostexperienced gamers might have a little trouble with the Lake Mugavelevel. Also: All melee combat is to the death. I actually set up aninvisible barrier around you and your opponent for all meleecombat. One of you is going to die. If your opponent dies, then thebarrier is removed. This is to prevent players from just walkingpast monsters, taking a little damage, and then continuing. That isno more. You are a hero. Act like it.DEVELOPER NOTESThere are some minor glitches that don't inhibit game play (theones that I know about, anyway). I will be fixing those in the nextrelease. I really like the enhancements to the combat engine. I'vereduced the amount of damage dealt, and increased the health ofboth you and your opponents. This means that combat lasts longer, which I think is more fun. Remember: Melee combat is always to thedeath now.
Aliens In Allentown 1.0
BACK STORY----------It's the near future. Allentown, PA has returned to its roots andbecome an industrial complex, providing jobs for thousands.Until the Second Great Depression. Now, most of the warehouses and office buildings are shuttered, leaving only remnants of a once great economy. As a result, labor unions protested and riots erupted. You are Lieutenant Rick Barrett, U.S. Army. You have beenstationed in Allentown to help prevent further riots. But you never saw this coming: Aliens have invaded. But why, out of all the places on the planet, would they chooseAllentown as a point of entry?GAME PLAY---------The joystick on the left controls your movement. The up arrow onthe right is the icon you press to jump. The icon to the right ofthat, which looks like a splat, is your attack button. You're armed with a Beretta 198F - the most powerful shotgun inthe known world.Of course, these aliens aren't from "the known world" arethey?Scoring: You get points for killing enemies. You will also gaintime bonuses for "clearing out" certain areas of all enemies. Ifyou restart the level or the game, your score resets to 0. This isonly fair, as we don't want people restarting a level over and overagain just to gain a higher score. There IS a high score board! There is no health bar. You will instead hear your heart beatlouder as you lose health.DEVELOPER NOTES---------------I do this as a hobby and the game is free - so no complaints!;)Seriously, let me know if you find any lingering bugs. I willtry to take care of them.I had to trim a lot out to make it under Google's 50Mb limit.Sorry, but I'm not going to try to deal with supplemental files inUnity. I have my sanity to preserve!I know that it is difficult to dodge enemy projectiles, especially with that joystick. So I have made those projectiles(with the exception of Species 42 projectiles) weak on damage.Still not sure if I'm getting old or if the joystick is just toosensitive. There's a careful balance between being able to movefast to dodge enemy projectiles and being so sensitive it's toughcontrol properly. Perhaps I'm still on that learning curve.I don't like the pixellated particle systems. They don't appearthat way on my PC, but they do on my Droid devices. That might justbe par for the course with mobile development. I'm still new atthis. LOL!I intentionally left out reloading. With most games, it seems tobe just a formality, and I have limited real estate for icons onmobile devices.Following modern conventions in video game development, I haveintentionally left out a "health bar". Instead, you will hear yourheart beat louder as you lose health, until you die. No, the screendoesn't go black and white. I need Unity Pro for that.I plan on doing more with this. There are also a couple of othergame ideas that I have in mind, so it's a matter of priorities.
The Terror Of The Troll Witch 1.2
This is Chapter 2 in the ongoing campaignknown as The Life And Times Of Seth Serrenson. This game can beenjoyed as a standalone game, or it can be part of a largerroleplaying experience.Chapter 1 of this series is called "Halls Of The Goblin Lords"and is available on GooglePlay.BACK STORY[Be advised that this back story will contain spoilers for peoplewho have not played the first chapter. If you wish to enjoy thefull experience, it is strongly advised that you play "Halls Of TheGoblin Lords" first.]You are Seth Serrenson, an axe-wielding (and only axe-wielding)former mercenary once in the employ of the Viscountess BayetteD'Lasio. After a series of goblin raids in your area, she sent youon a quest to locate, and destroy, the goblin shaman who was aleader of the local clans. Using your usual resourcefulness, youpenetrated the mysterious Halls Of The Goblin Lords and worked yourway through the underground keep to finally locate Gench, theaforementioned shaman. To accomplish this, you were assisted by an unnamed goblin whofeared that Gench was working for a cause contrary to goblininterests. The goblin would tell you no more. When you finally confronted Gench, he informed you that Bayettehad actually sent you to the Halls Of The Goblin Lords so that youwould die there. As of now, you have no idea if he was lying ornot. He also spoke of a larger plot of which he was a part, seemingly confirming the worries of the unnamed goblin who assistedyou. But there were no further details offered as to the exactnature of said plot. Before escaping the halls, you found two things of importance. One was a map with a Big X marked on a spot near a small villageknown as Westmoreland. The other item was a potion of unknowncontents. The immediate back story to Chapter 2 is as follows: You decideto work your way towards Westmoreland, hoping to find some answersthere. While on your journey, you recall that a hermit-likepotionmaster named Oswego has taken up residence near the abandonedCryssus homestead. Since it is not far out of your way, you thinkit might be prudent to let Oswego have a look at the potion. Maybehe can identify it.That is where our story begins...GAME PLAYI think it's safe to say that the controls are fairly standard. That big circle in the lower, left-hand side which looks like ajoystick control is actually a joystick control. The "attack" and"jump" icons are on the lower, right-hand side and it should befairly obvious which is which. The Settings "gear" icon is on theupper, right-hand side. Your score is on the upper, left-handside.As with the previous chapter, most people won't have a problem"completing" this chapter. If you're just about accomplishingquests, this should be easy. Hardcore gamers, however, have theoption of going for a high score. A couple of levels are timed. Thefaster you complete them, the better your score. There also what Ilaughingly call "side quests" - optional opportunities to pick uptreasure and kill more monsters, all of which gives you a higherscore.So... where is the health bar? There is no health bar. When youget injured, you hear a heartbeat. The more you get injured, thelouder the heartbeat.DEVELOPMENT NOTESAs usual, I scrimped and cut as much as possible to get this thingunder Google's 50Mb limit. Lots of normal maps had to go away.Heck, the troll witch itself was over 10Mb!I used three separate terrains as well - each one taking about2.5Mb. So I had to cut a lot to get under the magic number. But Idid it - just barely.I hope to continue this series.
Link Triage 1.02
Link Triage is a website crawler thatchecksthe links on the site for problems. If a link is brokenorinaccessible, the app will tell you the link that's broken aswellas where the reference to the link is found in the crawledsite. The app will also report on pages that aren't cached, so youcantake corrective action to speed up your site.As of now, Link Triage limits you to 1000 links crawledfordevices that allocate 64Mb of RAM for the app. If you're usingadevice with 128 Mb of RAM, you'll be able to crawl 2000 links.Ifyour device only allocated 32Mb of RAM, you'll be limited to500links.Also, the app will require you to have a WiFi connection touseit. You don't want to do a whole lot of network intensiveactivitywith your data plan. That could get expensive veryquickly.
Halls Of The Goblin Lords 1.1
BACKSTORYYou are Seth Serrenson, former mercenary and now a ward oftheViscountess Bayette D'Lasio. She provides you with free roomandboard in exchange for your services: You are attempting touncoverthe truth about who it is that murdered her husband.Lately, though, your services have taken a different turn.Youhave been tasked with retaliating against goblins, whose raidsonthe nearby villages have become more frequent. So, armed with only your favorite hand-axe, you move in onagroup of goblins to save a small town currently under attack. That's where our story begins.GAME PLAYGame play involves some action and fighting, but some of itisalso problem-solving (read: puzzles and riddles). I tried tocodethe game so that casual gamers can complete it, but hardcoregamerscan opt for the challenge of getting a higher score bykilling moregoblins in challenging environments. Most of the combat play should be fairly intuitive. The axeiconrepresents Seth's axe, and it is the only weapon he will useinthis game. You have to, of course, be in close proximity toanenemy to successfully hit him when you attack him.The joystick on the left controls movement. There is also ajumpbutton (the one that looks like a foot). Please note that there are also "dialogue trees" in thisgame.People who play RPGs regularly will know all about this. Youwillbe having a conversation with someone in the game, and you willbepresented with options for your part of the dialogue. You canpickany one of the options BUT YOU MUST PICK ONE. Simply touchtheoption to select it.I put some code in place to prevent the camera from goingthroughthe walls in the dungeon. It works about 70-80% of thetime. When itdoes work, it simply zooms in on the back of Seth'shead. This isjust to prevent the camera from going outside of thedungeon.Sometimes it doesn't work, and I'll look at that for thenextgame. If this is received fairly well, I'll go ahead and crank outasequel. I already have the outline for that in mind.As usual, I cut corners as much as possible to get underGoogle's50Mb limit. And we just barely made it this time!Any issues, feel free to drop me an email.
Photon Defender 1.0
My attempt at a clone of the arcadeclassicMissile Command. No need for a tracball, you simply tap the screen where youwantyour photons to explode! Not sure if I made it too easy. If so, then I'll just updatetheapp and clear the high scores. You get what you pay for! :)Tested it on an HTC and a Samsung mid-sized tablet. Looks goodonthose. Tested it on the Unity emulator and it looked good there.Thebiggest struggle is adapting the UI to all the differentDroidresolutions and pixel densities. Sigh. Please let me know ifImissed anything.
